I’m a PC and a Misinformed Shopper

Posted by: The Derelict  :  Category: Computers, Gripes

macpcjpgOK so I use both. I have PC for my servers, Mac for the laptop I am typing this on. At work It is all PC. Either way I like both for different reasons. Anyway I find most of the mac and pc/windows commercials amusing, but what I enjoy the most is watching Microsoft try to point out faults in Mac laptops while touting their own. So here I am watching The Simpsons when this commercial comes on.

So this lady is trying to find a laptop for $2k that can “cut video”. Fair enough. So around 21 seconds she gets to the Macbook…something I use to edit video daily. She looks right at this sweet new unibody Macbook then at the camera and she says “For under two grand this is the best apple and it only has 2 gigs of RAM.” Then she shrugs.

The shrug indicates that she has no idea that in this day and age RAM is typically one of the least expensive and easiest to upgrade laptop components. In this case you can purchase 4GB of RAM for a Macbook for between $50 and $75. From the looks of it this lady is at Fry’s. I love that place, however if you want to ask a sales rep a question…like how much a RAM upgrade for a Macbook is, well get in line. But wait there was a rep with her…I wonder, why didn’t he speak up about the low price of RAM and the convenience of editing video on a Mac?

So yeah the best Microsoft can do to dissuade people from buying macs is to prey on the people who are too naive to know any better.

And you know at the end when they smile and say “I’m a PC”…They are not excited smiling fools over their new PC laptop, they are ecstatic because they just got a free laptop from Microsoft.

chicago-mls-jailMy name is Joseph Reilly. I am a 24-year-old white male from an upper-class family. I have attended the finest schools and graduated from a prestigious university. I have also just been sentenced to 6-23 months for DUI Aggravated Assault. Now, I am property of the Philadelphia Prison System.

What follows is complete truth, as it happens, transcribed at the time of occurrence…..

I have been reading this blog for the last two weeks. It is a raw look at the inside of the philadelphia prison system from the perspective of young privileged white man with a bit of a drinking problem. Joseph tells his story by writing letters from prison which are transcribed in one entry per day. In the first few days alone Joseph sees a mans skull crushed in a holding cell, a man stabbed repeatedly in the face and a number of other disturbing occurrences.

He is only on day 13 of what may be a 600+ day sentence, here is hoping Joseph gets out unscathed, in great shape, cleaner and healthier.

SD, MicroSD and USB. I need one of these

Posted by: The Derelict  :  Category: Computers, Shiny & Useful

I found this a bit earlier and thought it was pretty cool. It can read your SD on one side and microSD on the other. So if you use both, you are getting two readers you can use at the same time for the price of one.

A nice compact package, and it is cheap too at $12.99.

I just asked my fiance to give up a kidney.

Posted by: The Derelict  :  Category: Cars

I told her all I need is about $40K and the rest is hers to keep. I am not sure how much you would actually get for a kidney on the black market, my search of the internets didn’t really provide me with a sold answer. What for? Well you see the pictures, so yeah.  The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS.

Sure I know this is not a new story or anything, but I finally got a second to check some videos out online. …and now I really want one. Well take a look.

Be sure to check out the skidpad test towards the end. That looks like fun.

Here is hoping GM stays around long enough for me to get my hands on one.

For the love of iPod

ipod_heartjpgSo I was just reading this article about a girl who ran into traffic to grab her dropped iPod.

Tampa police said the 16-year-old was crossing the street Tuesday morning when she dropped the electronic device. She went back to grab it off the roadway, and that’s when she was hit by the truck. (WESH Orlando)

I gotta hand it to this girl for retrieving her iPod and not getting dead. Sure a broken leg sucks, but so does going back to using CD’s. She obviously remembered how much she hated the sound of a CD skipping and went for broke! I would call her stupid, but I have done worse myself.

A few years ago I had a car burst into flames while I was driving it in San Diego. Pesky gasoline leak. I got out safely as the car started to melt around me only to realize my favorite shirt and my iPod were still in the car. So I shoved the cop doing crowd control to the side and made a run for the vehicle with the 10 foot flames coming out from under the hood. Not my brightest moment, but living without my 1st gen iPod would have been the real tragedy that day.
