Guilty people are not too smart/creative

This week I am in a class for advanced interviewing and interrogation. Quite interesting. We are seeing many video examples of real interrogations. The reaction these people have to being told they are quite obviously guilty is priceless!

Guilty of things like grand theft, murder, rape, child abuse…

What is their reactions when being told point blank “our inestigation shows clearly that you did this”?

“It does?!” “I did?!”

The phony-ness of the surprise demonstrated by nearly most guilty people is staggering! As well as that as a rule they also shift their weight, look away, smirk, and try to cover that smirk.

It just can’t be controlled, if you are lying or omitting facts it will show!

This is by far one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. Not only is this helpful for my work, but in the real world too! Just observing people this week I have seen them demonstrating many of the same ‘tells’ in everyday conversation. Things like breaking gaze to the right indicating editing or fabrication of what they are saying.

When that guy told me that was the lowest he could go on that car, was it?

Next time you ask someone a serious question see if they look you in the eye, or break right.

Searching “Reid” on amazon will show you some books on this topic. Here is one we are using.

Lesson 3: How to hide data and have it readily accessible

If you are like me, you are paranoid. Perhaps not paranoid enough. Everyone has that random misplaced phone jack hidden behind a couch, now you can make good use of it. Take a look as the website instructables.com shows you how to build a hidden usb thumb drive into a phone jack.  And with 32GB thumb drives costing only $100 that is a lot of room for your plans to take over the world.

More cool how to projects

Lesson 2: How to destroy evidence (damn that’s cool!)

The guys over at Hack a Day show how to completely melt away your data and damn near anything else you need to lose – with Thermite. I have hammered nails through hard drives, screws, drills, I have even shot them…but this is the coolest by far. (FYI Thermite burns at 4566 °F)

I have to agree with them though… DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME!

See the rest here at Hack a Day

That was a hard drive!

Lesson 1: How to avoid work

Posted by: The Derelict  :  Category: Lessons

Hello all, I am the Derelict. In order for this site to be truly useful to you, you will need to be able to access it while at work. Now if you are like most people you work for a huge company who blocks most of the good sites. Most of these companies rely on other companies to research ‘inappropriate’ sites and compile a big list. Your company just plugs that new list into their firewall quarterly and voila! no more ESPN or Facebook at work. However if you use a website called an anonymizer you can freely go to any site you wish without being blocked. Go to the link above if you wish to learn more. New sites are popping up all the time.  Try out this one, it is as good as any out there. If it goes down or is blocked by your company, just google anonymizer, there are hundreds of choices. But don’t get caught googling that at work!
