The definition of grandstanding…

Just a thought, but I think that the future president of the United States should be able to multitask. However John McCain has dropped everything to run back to Washington to save the day! But really all this is, is some good old fashioned grandstanding. It all can be traced back to 2005 with Hurricane Katrina. The perception is that the government really dropped the ball and was unresponsive for days and weeks after the disaster. You can see the difference in their handling of disasters when they considered canceling the RNC this year because of hurricane whatever it was called.

Apparently we are in a ‘financial crisis’ and no one wants to be the the “too little too late” candidate. So now we get a bunch of “I’m here and making a difference, see me? I am right here! HERE!, and yes I care about the little people.”

So John McCain is off to Washington to fix the economy make Obama look inept! He wants to postpone all debates and campaigning for now. Obviously he doesn’t want sound bites from that overshadowing the sound bites of him fixing our economy.

I don’t see how one has to do with the other though. He should still be able to do his ‘day job’ with plenty of time left over to have a debate in the evening. Honestly I don’t think McCain cares about the financial crisis. I think he cares about looking like he cares…more than Obama.

I was just reading this article on CNN that states that Obama contacted McCain before his ‘drop everything’ announcement, wanting to put out a bi-partisan statement defining what needs to be done to resolve the crisis. McCain saw this as an opportunity to look like the proactive hero, and he took it. Too bad for him that most people can see right through it.

Anyway, I think David Letterman sums it up really nicely. The economy is about to explode!

Here we go again.

John McCain is telling us what his true feelings are on stem cell research.

We could be looking at 4-8 more years of set backs in embryonic stem cell research…

Under President Bush’s policy, SCNT is denied federal funding, but still legal. McCain would make it “a federal crime for researchers to use cells or fetal tissue from an embryo created for research purposes.”

Republican presidential nominee John McCain would criminalize a promising branch of stem cell research, according to a statement issued by the candidate’s campaign. Though such legislation would probably not survive Congress, he might extend President Bush’s much-criticized limitation of embryonic stem cell research.

He cannot be trusted to be a supporter of embryonic stem cell research,” said University of Pennsylvania bioethicist Art Caplan. “He is moving toward a straight pro-life stance and this sort of answer can only be read as such.”
